Knowing When It’s Time to Take a Break

February marks 5 years of blogging. It’s hard to believe. At times it’s been a real challenge, but for the most part I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it.

With a Bible study in the editing stage and a second children’s book waiting in the wings, I’ve decided to step away from blogging for awhile to focus my full attention on these two works-in-progress.

An unexpected suggestion

[Tweet “Taking a break is healthy!”]

I love the example in the Bible:

And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught. And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.Mark 6:30-31

The disciples had been busy accomplishing great things. They enjoyed what they were doing and were excited about the work. But Jesus saw their need for a break.

A get-away

With people constantly coming and going, the disciples didn’t even have time to eat. I don’t know about you, but I like to eat regularly. If I don’t take the time to sit down for a meal, even if it’s just for a few minutes, I get tired and irritable. The disciples were probably no different.

Jesus suggested taking a trip to the desert. Why the desert? They wouldn’t have to worry about being thronged by people. They certainly wouldn’t be distracted. They could get some much-needed rest and re-focus on the work ahead of them.

A different focus

While I won’t be resting in the desert, I will be taking a break from blogging. I will continue to post monthly at Jewels of Encouragement, Internet Café Devotions, and My Forsyth. I look forward to announcing the up-coming release of my Bible study, Outrageously Fruitful, and my children’s book, Louie & the Leaf Pile. And returning to blogging, refreshed and eager to share God’s truths!

Your turn

Is it time for you to take a break? Carefully consider the next step God would have you take today.

PRAYER

Lord, Thank You for reminding me of the importance of taking a break. Help me regroup and focus on what is most important. Help me stay close to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen
