What’s Missing?

Do you ever feel like you’re missing something? I remember being single and longing for a spouse. Maybe you’re married and all you dream of are children. It could be you’re consumed by your job and can’t wait to retire. Whatever stage of life we’re in, human nature would have us reaching for something more in order to be complete.

A husband

A child

A raise

A promotion

A new car

A vacation

A house

A degree

A problem-free life

A healthy body

The list is endless. The truth is simple and yet profound. Jesus is enough

Living it out

I don’t need to look any further than Christ for fulfillment.

I am complete in Him. The challenge is living out this truth on a daily basis. What does it look like?

It’s being transparent with the One who already knows we struggle.

“Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.”Psalm 62:8

It’s spending time getting to know our Creator.

“O how I love thy law! It is my meditation all the day.”Psalm 119:97

It’s believing His Word.

“Thou art good, and doest good, teach me thy statutes.”Psalm 119:68

It’s trusting Him when we can’t see the answers.

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths”Proverbs 3:5-6

*It’s letting go of everything else we hold onto: people, things, circumstances; and grasping the fact thatJesus + nothing makes us complete.

“And ye are complete in him… “Colossians 2:10

The result

What a profound truth that results in contentment. With a world tugging on our affections and hearts that are easily deceived, we need to have a single focus: Christ. Knowing that the Lord is our Heavenly Father who wants what’s best for us, can give us the confidence we need to stop striving and start living a life that’s complete in Him.
Are you looking for something to complete you? How does your equation add up:

Heavenly Father, what an awesome truth to know that I am complete in You. No person, thing, or circumstance can complete me. Only You can. Help me remember this truth today and find contentment in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
